American Heart Association Heart-saver Courses

Heart-saver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (for example, OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. For many Heart-saver courses, students receive a course completion card that is valid for 2 years.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider

Basic life support skills include CPR, AED use, and ventilations. Available in two tracks: pre-hospital and in hospital. Successful completion results in an AHA BLS Healthcare Provider course completion card.

American Heart Association Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) Provider

This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support

PALSis a classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics.

American Heart Association Instructor Courses – Heartsaver / BLS / ACLS / PALS

Becoming an American Heart Association instructor is easy after consulting with an American Heart Association Training Center to find out whether the Training Center (TC) is accepting new instructors and the TCC’s (Training Center Coordinator) preferred course delivery.

The steps are simple – get started today!

  1. Be accepted by your local AHA Training Centerbefore enrolling in an Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center.
  2. Successfully complete the online Instructor Essentials for the specific discipline for which you plan to take the Instructor Course.
  3. Have current AHA provider status in the discipline for that Instructor Course and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline. Disciplines include ACLS, BLS, PALS, and Heartsaver.
  4. Successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course.
  5. Successfully be monitored teaching your first course within six months of completing the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course. Training Center Coordinators can require additional monitoring.

Once you become an Instructor, you will have access to the most current emergency cardiovascular care science, course updates, training resources and tools through the online AHA Instructor Network. You will also be able to post class dates and times to reach more students through AHA public website.

Emergency Medical Responder [EMR]

This level has historically been referred to as First Responder. These are common in industrial or commercial settings where more than First Aid providers are needed while awaiting ambulance response. EMR personnel receive training in rendering aid and in conducting patient assessment above that of a First Aid provider.

Emergency Medical Technician [EMT]

An entry-level course for Emergency Medical Services [EMS]. EMT personnel may be employed on ambulances that provide emergency and non-emergency transport services for sick and injured persons. EMT students receive significant training in dealing with trauma patients and in conducting patient assessments.

Cost: $2500.00 On-line / Campus practical

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician [AEMT]

An advanced level course with training / education above that of an EMT but not yet to the level of Paramedic. AEMT students receive significant training / education in anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, patient assessment, IV therapy, advanced airways and certain medication administration.

Paramedic (Coming Soon)

The highest level general course for pre-hospital medicine. Student candidates must be EMT or AEMT in order to enter this program. Training / education will include substantial components involving in-depth anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, patient assessment, cardiology, endotracheal intubation and team management. Licensed paramedics may choose to pursue additional education to further specialize in Critical Care, Community Paramedicine, or Flight Paramedic.

EKG Technician Course

This 48 hour course prepares students to become certified. As a Certified EKG Technician (CET), you’ll have the credentials nearly all healthcare employers require to perform the critical tasks of administering EKGs, as well as Holter monitoring and stress testing. These tests can be performed during physical exams, when cardiovascular problems are suspected, or in preparation for surgery.
